How to Create Your San Francisco City Hall Wedding Timeline (Without Feeling Rushed)
There’s something about getting married at San Francisco City Hall that just hits. The architecture is grand, the light is cinematic, and somehow—even on a weekday—it can feel like the entire building exists just for you. And your San Francisco City Hall wedding timeline is what turns that feeling into a full, meaningful experience.

But here’s the thing most people don’t realize:
Your timeline is what determines whether your day feels calm and magical… or rushed and chaotic.
And City Hall? It moves fast.
So instead of thinking, “What’s the quickest way to get married?”
I want you to think:
What do I want this day to feel like—and what do I want to remember 10 years from now?
Because that’s what your timeline should be built around.

Before we even talk about time, we need to talk about intention.
City Hall weddings are not one-size-fits-all. They can be:
And none of these are “better” than the others.
What matters is:
Because once you decide that, your timeline becomes clear.

City Hall is an incredible building that is packed with so many photo locations. In fact, it is difficult to shoot there for less than 2 hours.
Here’s what 2 hours allows for:
If you want more:
3 hours = exploring more of the building OR adding a second location such as the Palace of Fine Arts or the Golden Gate Bridge.
Let’s walk through a real example timeline!
8:00 AM — Arrive at City Hall
8:00–8:10 — First Look
8:10–8:45 — Portraits Before Ceremony
8:45 — Check-In
9:00–9:10 — Ceremony
9:10–9:30 — Family & Friends
9:30–9:40 — Couple Portraits (Round 2)
9:50–10:00 — Exit
Done… but also, if you want photos at more City Hall spots, extend your session an extra 30 minutes.

If you want your day to feel more full and story-driven, this is where it starts.
6:30 AM — Photographer arrives
What we capture:
7:40 AM — Leave for City Hall
7:55 AM — Arrive at City Hall
→ This adds depth to your story
→ And gives you those “photos that feel like home”

This is where your wedding starts to feel like a full San Francisco experience.
You’re already dressed. You’re already in it. So why not explore?
10:00 — Leave City Hall
10:15 — Wayfare Tavern (10–15 min photos)
10:45 — California Street (10 min photos)
11:30 — Golden Gate Bridge / Marin (15 min photos)

This is the biggest mistake I see. People underestimate how:
So they compress everything. And that’s when it starts to feel rushed.
Instead:
Because your wedding day should never feel like a sprint.
